Install Node.js

Elasticdump.com is an independent guide to Elasticdump, the open-source command-line tool for copying, backing up and restoring Elasticsearch and OpenSearch indices. We explain how to download it, install it and use it, without the guesswork.

Why this site exists

The README tells you every option. It doesn’t tell you which one you need.

Elasticdump is a great little tool, and its official README is thorough. It’s also a long, flat list of flags. When you’re staring at a certificate error at 11 p.m., a list of flags isn’t what you need. You need someone to say “you’re on Elasticsearch 8, copy the CA file and add one option”.

Most tutorials online don’t help much either. Many were written for older versions of Node.js, Elasticsearch and Elasticdump, so their commands fail quietly or behave differently today. We built this site to be the guide we kept wishing existed: current, task-based and honest about where Elasticdump isn’t the right tool.

  • 8 in-depth guides, and growing
  • 8 tested recipes on the homepage
  • 17 FAQs answered in plain English

What we cover

Official downloads only
Every download button points to GitHub, npm or Docker Hub. We never rehost or repackage Elasticdump.

Commands that run today
Recipes for real jobs: copying indices, backups, S3, CSV and Windows PowerShell, checked against the current README.

Security without shortcuts
How to connect to secured clusters properly, instead of switching off certificate checks.

Fixes for real errors
The errors people actually hit, from out-of-memory to ECONNREFUSED in Docker, with the fix for each.

How we check what we publish

1. Start from the source
Facts come from the official elasticsearch-dump README, its npm listing and Docker Hub, plus Elastic’s own documentation for Elasticsearch behaviour.

2. Date every fact
Version numbers and project stats change, so we show when they were last checked and update them when new releases land.

3. Label examples honestly
Commands come from the official docs. Where a screenshot shows example output, the caption says so.

4. Say what we don’t know
If something can’t be verified, such as an exact package size or a speed claim, we leave it out rather than guess.

What we will never do

  • Host, modify or bundle Elasticdump files
  • Publish fake reviews, download counts or virus-scan badges
  • Ask you to send passwords, API keys or dump files
  • Pretend to be the official Elasticdump project
  • Let advertising change a technical recommendation

Independent, and proud of it

Elasticdump.com is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the elasticsearch-dump maintainers, Elastic N.V., Amazon Web Services or the OpenSearch project. Elasticdump itself is built and maintained by its open-source contributors on GitHub. If you find it useful, starring the repository or contributing a fix is the best thanks they can get.
